Super-rich shell out for island paradise

Super-rich shell out for island paradise - Telegraph: "The UK residential property market may be in a prolonged slump, not so the sale of private islands. Despite the global economic crisis, super-rich investors are continuing to snap up their own little pieces of paradise. From palm-fringed atolls in the South Pacific to heather-clad outcrops off the coasts of Ireland and Canada, demand is intense, according to the head of the world’s biggest island-selling agency. Farhad Vladi, the founder of the Vladi Private Islands agency, has 400 islands on his books, from the fjords of Scandinavia to Venice’s lagoon and the limpid waters of Fiji, Australia and New Zealand. The most expensive, an island in the Bahamas, has an asking price of $48m (£31m). Its name and location is available only on request to trusted clients – the sale is subject to a confidentiality agreement imposed by its “very well-known owner”, Mr Vladi said."
